My Story

I started writing plays as a Marine and spent the next decade working as a carpenter, database designer, fisherman and teacher before choosing a career in Polish and German translation. Along the way, I wrote and directed plays and movies in Krakow, Berlin, London, Los Angeles and New York, earned a Masters in philosophy from the Jagiellonian University and studied directing at the Polish National Film School in Lodz. In 2021 I moved to Philadelphia and converted an abandoned escape room into Yellow Bicycle Theater.

“Five Plays” by playwright and screenwriter Joshua Crone spans a decade of writing, producing and theater-building, from a military psychodrama about prisoner abuse (Solitaire) and an award-winning dramatization of a school shooting (Washed in the Blood) to a hit comedy starring a dog on ayahuasca (The Journey), a noh-inspired drama exploring the aftermath of Hiroshima (Ashes Ashes) and a new comedy about America’s collective divorce (A House Divided).

Join actor/director Thoeger Hansen of Night Cook Studio as he talks with Crone about the plays in the collection and the ideas and stories behind them. "A House Divided tackled polarization without taking sides — I couldn’t tell you the politics of the playwright or cast, which allowed us to connect with the story and draw our own moral conclusions."

-Timothy Roscoe, Google Reviews

"Crone’s story grip’s viewers as we witness the pilots’ encounters with two young women who turn out to be a big part of their history — the Hiroshima survivor turned prostitute Miko and Japanese-American journalist Asuna."
